Ancient Corinth

Ancient Corinth was a city-state on the Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow stretch of land that joins the Peloponnese to the mainland of Greece, roughly halfway between Athens and Sparta.

Mycenae – an ancient greek civilisation

Mycenae was a fortified late Bronze Age city located between two hills on the Argolid plain of the Peloponnese, Greece.

Epidaurus – a theatre from 4th century BC

The castle of Monemvasia

The Byzantine city of Mystras

Mystras is situated on the slopes of Taygetos Mountain. The archaeological site stands above the modern village of Mystras and the city of Sparta.

Peninsula of Mani and caves of Diros

Mani is the central peninsula of the three which extend southwards from the Peloponnese in southern Greece.

Messene is a significant ancient city in terms of its size, form, and state of preservation, and still has much to offer.

The Castle of Koroni

A castle with impressive fortifications at the southwestern end of the Peloponnese which existed since the 7th century AD and was completed and reconstructed by the Venetians in the 13th century.

The Castle of Methoni

The castle of Methoni -actually a fortified city- is one of the most important and the most beautiful castles in Greece. It was built by the Venetians after 1209 at a strategic location, on a rock penetrating the sea and is separated from the land by an artificial moat.

Pylos – a city with long history

Pylos has a long history, having been inhabited since Neolithic times. It was a significant kingdom in Mycenaean Greece, with remains of the so-called “Palace of Nestor” excavated nearby, named after Nestor, the king of Pylos in Homer’s Iliad.

Ancient Olympia

Olympia was the site of the ancient Olympic Games, which were celebrated every four years by the Greeks. Olympia was situated in a valley in Elis, in western Peloponnisos (Peloponnesus), through which runs the Alpheus River.

Lake Doxa

Lake Doxa is an artificial lake in western Corinthia, Greece. It is situated at an elevation of 900 m, in the municipal unit Feneos, near the village Archaia Feneos.

Petrified palm forest

The petrified trunks of palm trees, pine trees and wide-leaf trees, in combination with the unique landscape of Cape Maleas and the crystal clear waters of the Agia Marina area, compose a very beautiful scenery.

Elafonissos

Elafonissos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It can be characterised as an exotic island as the white sand and the turquoise waters makes you believe that you are in Maldives. You can take the ferry every half an hour to take you to the island and the trip lasts only 15 minutes. 

Talanda Watermills

A plentiful supply of water in Talanta kept the town’s 11 watermills busy for decades and provided a good living for the townspeople. Thousands from the surrounding region used to come there to grind their wheat. The water was channeled as far as Plytra on the coast. Even the town’s name is an indication of its former wealth (talanta is an ancient word for a unit of weight and for a monetary unit).

Caves of Diros

Diros Caves have been described as the most impressive limnetic caves of the whole world. They consist of three different caverns: the Alepotripae, Katafygi and Vlyxada that is the only one that is open for visits.

Limeni

Limeni, the Mavromichali’s family erstwhile settlement, is one of the most beautiful and traditional coastal village of Mani. Located in just 5 km from Areopoli and approximately 27 km from Gythion. The village is very picturesque and of a unique beauty as it combines harmoniously the sea and the unique landscape.

Cape Tenaron

Tenaron is the southest part of coastal Europe. Here existed according to Pausanias, the temple of Tenariou Poseidon, who was worshipped especially by Lakones, and it became the center of the “Brotherhood of Freelakones”.

Ridomo gorge

The Ridomo gorge starts below the peaks of Mt.Taygetos at the altitude of 2031 meters and runs all the way down to Santova Beach just outside of Kalamata. There are many marked paths crisscrossing the area and connecting the gorge with the nearby mountain villages and tiny churches scattered over the hills.

Polylimnio waterfall

Often described as a Greek paradise, the Polilimnio Waterfalls in Polilimnio Gorge offer something different from Messenia’s usual beaches. Visitors are immersed in a scene of lush greenery, gushing cascades, and green lakes filled with fresh-water crabs perfect for a relaxing dip.

Voidokoilia

Voidokoilia Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. The sheltered bay is referred to in Homer’s Odyssey and archaeologists believe it was used by King Nestor as a port in ancient times.

Neda waterfalls

There are only two rivers with a female name in Greece.

One of them, from the age of “Pafsanias” and older, separates Hleia form Messinia. It is called Neda river.
Its fountain is located at the mountainous area on the border of two counties (very close to Andritsena) and after a 32 kilometers of a wonderful journey it ends at the bay of “Elaia” at Kyparissiakos. The canyon of Neda is accessible during the summer months and is a truly magical journey for all nature lovers.

Forest Foloi

Moving back to the birthplace of Olympic Games, Ancient Olympia in Hleia, you will meet the plateau of Foloi on Mt. Erymanthos. Characterized as one of the most beautiful forests of Peloponnese, Foloi is considered the oldest European self-planted beech and oak forest and the biggest of the Balkans. It spreads for almost 33.000 sq.m., on Mt Foloi, at 688m altiitude, while the rivers Ladon and Erymanthos create a unique and enchanting environment

Kyllini thermal baths

In Kyllini the thermal baths are considered to be one of the oldest, most complete and modern baths of Europe.

Nafplion

Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf.

Leonidio

In the picturesque alleys of Leonidio, the traditional manor houses stand as specimens of the “Tsakonian” architecture and exude a stately air.

Kosmas village

Kosmas is a mountainous village in Arkadia near Leonidio. It is built at 1119 m height. in a scenery full of green, a lot of small rivers and a forest of fir trees.

Gythio

The port of Gythio is rich in fish taverns, beautiful old Turkish style houses and a bustling waterfront, which is the town’s center of gravity.

Arna village

Arna is a village on the eastern slopes of the Taygetusmountain range, at an altitude of 700 to 850 m. The nearest major towns are Gytheio, 35 km to the southeast, and Sparta, approximately 40 km to the north.

Areopolis

Areopoli is a town on the Mani Peninsula, Laconia, Greece. The word Areopoli means “city of Ares”, the ancient Greek god of war. It was the seat of Oitylo municipality. Areopoli was called Tsimova by the invading Slavs during the 7th century AD.

City of Kalamata

There are numerous historical and cultural sights in Kalamata, such as the Villehardouin castle, the Ypapanti Byzantine church, the Kalograion monastery with its silk-weaving workshop where the Kalamata scarves are made, and the municipal railway park.
