Elafonissos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It can be characterised as an exotic island as the white sand and the turquoise waters makes you believe that you are in Maldives. You can take the ferry every half an hour to take you to the island and the trip lasts only 15 minutes.

Two majestic bays serve up fine white sand and emerald water, and a rare cedar forest that spreads out along the sand dunes. Elafonisos welcomes you to paradise in the south of the Peloponnese!

The most famous beach is Simos beach, where you can also find a well-organised camping that is right on the magnificent beach. Megali paralia is another wonderful beach. Both are organised with umbrellas and loungers. If you are not fond of the organised beaches you can walk some meters and lay down on the virgin beach and admire the beauty of the sea. There is a part on the beach that is meant to be for naturalists.

While you are on the island you can also visit the sunken city of Pavlopetri. There are local fish boats that takes you there for swimming, snorkelling and exploring the sea-bed. It is situated between Pounta and the Pavlopetri islet. The water has kept much of the structure of this sunken marvel intact – buildings, roads and squares are all still in evidence. There’s even a cemetery with 60 graves to the northeastern of the city! Research is ongoing to try to shed yet more light on this rare archaeological find.

Local specialities are the fresh fish, tsaitia, which is a pie with herbs and cheese and ydromelo which is a spirit made out of honey.

Elafonisos is only 1 mile from the coast of Peloponesse and the boattrip lasts only 7 minutes. During high season, July and August, the ferry timetable is every 30 minutes. Simos Camping is only 4 km away from the port, right in front of the famous beach of Simos and is the unique camping on the island.
